Hey guys,
My sister had some awesome advice about stain removal, so I begged asked her to write a post to kick off my DIY Series on Stain Removal. She has written a few of my posts that can be found here, here and here. I hope you find her tips as useful as I have.
Have a fabulous Monday,
Kristina
Hello Everyone,
Over the past couple of years, I have learned
(the hard way) not to dress my daughter in brand new clothes when she
goes to my In-Law's house! She always comes home with a brand new stain
and all they could say is “She’s a Kid!” Well she’s a kid at home too,
but not as dirty!
I have
spent a lot of money on different stain removers, that sometimes work
just fine, but I have two monsters on the lose getting bigger and
messier. The amount of laundry and stains just keeps increasing. So
therefore the amount of money being spent on stain removers, that might
not even help keeps increasing just as well.
My
husband the self-proclaimed “know it all genius” (who would divorce me
if he saw this comment), introduced me to Hydrogen Peroxide! On Berry stains,
you just pour a little bit of baking soda, and some hydrogen peroxide
over it, let it bubble and set it aside for an hour. Voila! Now,
hydrogen peroxide is also good to soak grape juice, Popsicle and Koolade stains in. For blood stains,
soak in cold water and salt, and if it’s still not coming out, add a
few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the spot and rinse it with water.
I have tried it on Strawberry stains that were fresh and
the ones that set in for a few days, and it worked miracles. Also, my daughter had
spilled some fruit juice on a t-shirt, and I soaked it with hydrogen
peroxide, gone! Very impressive!
One of my personal “hates” is the tomato stains.
Nothing a little bit of WD-40 won’t fix?! Spray a little bit on the
stain, and you can wash it in a few minutes. The only thing I didn’t
like was the smell of WD-40 that was left behind after the whole wash
and rinse cycle, but the smell disappeared after it was dried. So it
worked out pretty good!
Grass stains, little bit of dish soap rubbed into the stain,
let it sit for a few hours, should be out! Grass stains on running
shoes? With a sponge, rub in a little bit of molasses, leave it
overnight, rinse and dry.
I have personally thrown out clothes because of mildew stains.
But I heard that if you soak the garment in 2 cups of borax, and 2
quarts of water it should come out! Or, ¼ cup of color bleach with 1
gallon of warm water. Sounds pretty easy, wish I would have known
before!
Are your kids having accidents during the night? No Problem! Remove urine stains by simply blotting them with club soda.
That’s all I have for now! I hope that this information helps you out. Some of these tips I have tried personally, and some I have heard from others.
Care
to share on how you keep your kids clean?! Please feel free to post
your tips, with hopes to end someone’s laundry nightmares!
