ORGANIZING TOYS

If you have small children, like me, you probably all have the same problem: toys, TOYS, and more TOYS!!!
I am yet to find a system that will work effectively. In the ideal world, they would each have their own room, but this is what we can afford right now. My husband is back in school, working towards his Masters in English (really aiming at a PHD-fingers crossed), so we have a really tight budget.

You see, my kids are 7 and 8. My son is into his video games, so he doesn't really spend much time playing with toys, yet he is not ready to give them up just yet. And my daughter is all about her dolls and crafts. Needless to say, we have mountains of toys. We did a little push and pull and were able to minimize the mountain to a hill. We brought the toys they were willing to give up and donated them.

Until recently we had a cubed shelving unit in their room to store the toys in, but we had to make a much needed decision and bought two wardrobes to make more room for their clothing. Resulting with the only storage for the toys to be under bed...OUCH!

Of we went to the store, and bought plastic bins that will comfortably fit under the bed and almost serve as drawers. They can easily slide them out if needed.

We made cost effective labels from paint chips and cards. We cut up sheet protectors and made sleeves to protect the labels. We used shades of blue for my son's toys, pink for my daughters and green for their shared toys.

Since my daughter's Barbies and their accessories were overflowing (and she just could not part with any of it) we designated a "Hello Kitty" toy box just for them. Their accessories were sorted into a small drawer system that I bought from the dollar store.  The clothes we put into a "suitcase."  ;)

How do you guys organize your kids' toys? Do you have any cool tips to share with me?
Please do!

I would be happy to hear your thoughts,

  2. I love the way you've organized the kids stuff! Kid's things are the hardest thing for me to deal with. It's a challenge that has multiple heads, lol. Our children don't want to part with anything--especially the big, bulky things or the little bitty parts stuff, and yet they get bookoos more every holiday, party they attend and chore money they recieve. It's seriously challenging. Thanks so much for linking up with Making Space Mondays! Please come back and link up again soon--the current linky party will be open all through September to give us more moving time. Feel free to link up as many posts as you want about making your spaces better. Thanks again. -Tabitha

    1. Thank you Tabitha!! It is definitely the hardest thing to deal with in my household as well! We just have to be persistent and keep tweaking the system until something sticks. I also try to involve my kids in the whole process, and ask them for ideas. It makes them feel important and eager to help.

      All the best, Kristina :)
