-Wash, dry and put away any dirty dishes.
-Tackle the things you have been dreading first, so once that is out of the way it will be easier to finish the rest of the job.
-Keep at hand your sorting bins.
-Go through ALL of your dishes. Don’t feel bad to toss out items that are chipped, mismatched, plastic containers without the lid, or the fourth and fifth spatula that you never use. Less is more!

-Keep
setting your timer especially in the cluttered spots and junk drawers to keep you on track. Put all piled up papers you find in one spot to go over another time, don't let yourself be sidetracked by them. If they keep piling
up in your kitchen, and you’re starting to miss payments because of
being disorganized, pick up an mail
organizer for bills next time you are at a store, and label them "INCOMING," "OUTGOING" and "FILE." (I will go into greater detail in the "Organizing the Office" post)
-If you already have a junk drawer in your kitchen, keep it in the same spot, because things WILL always pile up in there whether you like it or not. Keep it, but organize it! What we did in our mothers junk drawer is, we filled it with small, shallow Tupperware containers and every single one had different contents in it (eg. rubber bands, pens, little pads of paper, matches, etc.). She kept it clutter free for three years now!!!
-Keep items where you need and use them the most. For example, glasses and cups close to the sink, pots, pans, and cooking utensils should be close to the stove. Keep in mind the flow of things in the room. The items you use more, keep at arms reach and the ones you use less, store on higher shelves.
I hope these tips will help you on your journey to a perfectly organized kitchen!
- INCOMING - is where you will put all incoming mail. If you have a few seconds, weed through them and toss the junk mail right away. Keep bills here. You might want to get rid of the envelopes and write the due date with a black marker on top.
- OUTGOING- is where you put all your outgoing mail. Keep postage stamps and address labels here.
- FILE - is where you will put all paid bills (stamped "Paid" with a date). This will be filed away as soon as you get a chance.

I need to finish my kitchen. I started cleaning it out and got sidetracked. -Tabitha
ReplyDeleteHi Tabitha,
DeleteIt's so easy to get sidetracked when cleaning and organizing. That's why I usually set my timers. For some reason I get more focused on the task and finishing it in the time frame I give myself. And if the task at hand is a little overwhelming I break the projects up and do 15 minutes per day until its done (one drawer at a time).

excellent tips! We have open shelving in our kitchen so if it's not organized *everyone* knows it! I'd love for you to share this at Pin Inspiration Party :D http://www.addhousewife.com/2012/08/pin-inspiration-party-48.html
ReplyDeleteThank you Micki for the comment and the invite!!! I just pinned up my post on your pin inspiration party :)
